Having lived in Hay River, Norman Wells, Aklavik and Inuvik as a child, Michelle Swallow has always felt drawn to the Mackenzie River. In September 2004, on the suggestion of her father, Michelle began paddling and documenting the Mackenzie River from Hay River to Fort Simpson, and eventually all the way to Tuktoyaktuk. Michelle lives in Yellowknife, NWT with her dog Jelly Belly, and continues to enjoy northern paddling adventures.
With a week’s notice in 2005 Farah Denkovski quit her job and travelled North to paddle from Fort Simpson to Norman Wells. In 2007 she again travelled North to paddle from Norman Wells to Tuktoyaktuk. Farah is the world’s best paddling companion. Given just two cups of coffee every morning she was even tempered no matter the weather or wind. Farah lives in Nelson, BC with her husband Goran and daughter Anika.
